Hon. Sylvia Namabidde Ssinabulya – Chairperson Save the Mothers East Africa Board, is a passionate advocate for maternal and reproductive health with over 35 years of experience spanning government, civil society, and education sectors. A former Member of Parliament in Uganda (2001–2016), she played a leading role in shaping national policy on maternal health and education, including championing the landmark 2006 parliamentary resolution that prioritized maternal health in Uganda. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health Leadership and has extensive expertise in education management, gender policy, strategic planning, and sexual and reproductive health.

Mr. David Mugawe - Deputy Vice Chancellor, Finance and Administration, Uganda Christian University; Board Member, Save the Mothers East Africa: Mr. Mugawe is an accomplished institutional leader with over 20 years of experience in higher education management and development. As Deputy Vice Chancellor at Uganda Christian University, he oversees finance, administration, and external relations. He brings strategic leadership and a strong commitment to community engagement, helping to strengthen partnerships and advance maternal health through his role on the Board of Save the Mothers East Africa.

Dr. Olive Sentumbwe-Mugisa - founding member Save the Mothers East Africa and board member, is obstetrician-gynecologist, a seasoned public health specialist and reproductive health advocate with over 25 years of experience in maternal, newborn, and adolescent health. She is a technical officer at the World Health Organization – Uganda Country Office, where she provides strategic guidance on sexual and reproductive health programs.

Dr. Jean Chamberlain Froese is an internationally recognized maternal health expert, obstetrician-gynecologist, and the founding director and a founding member of Save the Mothers. Based in Canada, she is a Professor at McMaster University and has spent over two decades working in sub-Saharan Africa to reduce maternal mortality. Her work has been honored globally, including recognition as a Member of the Order of Canada for her contributions to global maternal health.

Dr. Nsubuga Mushin, Executive Director -STMEA – An obstetrician-gynecologist and lecturer Uganda Christian University - Department of Public Health. Dr Nsubuga has vast experience in public health, leadership, and maternal health systems, he brings strategic oversight and cross-sectoral experience.

Catherine Mwesigwa Kizza - Board Member Save the Mothers East Africa, has expertise in communication and media. She the Senior Human Resource Business Partner for the Content Department, Vision Group since October 2020. Before this, she worked as Deputy Editor of New Vision newspaper for 10 years. She has 20 years’ journalism and newsroom management experience. Mwesigwa has a Bachelor of Arts, Mass Communication (MAK), Master of Public Health Leadership (UCU) and a Practical diploma in International Journalism, Thomson Foundation, Cardiff Wales, UK. She has a Trainer of Trainers for Journalists certificate from the International Institute of Journalism, Berlin Germany and a Women Deliver award winner for game-changing media coverage of maternal, sexual and reproductive health and rights issues.
Margaret Kiwanuka – Quality and Assurance Coordinator, Uganda Christian University, is an accomplished educationist and PhD candidate at Uganda Christian University. She holds a Master’s in Educational Administration and Management and a BA in Education from Makerere University. With extensive leadership Margaret has served on several education and development boards. Margaret has worked with national and international organizations including the Ministry of Education, Uganda Youth Forum, and the World YWCA, advancing community development, youth empowerment, and women’s rights.
Pastor Josephine Waako is a respected religious and community leader with deep experience in both pastoral ministry and public health advocacy. She serves on the Board of Save the Mothers East Africa, bringing invaluable leadership rooted in faith, wellness, and community cohesion. Pastor Waako’s strengths include public health promotion, pastoral care, and strategic leadership; making her a vital bridge between community and health systems in support of maternal and child wellbeing.
Samson Wanambuko, LL.B, Senior Legal Officer Uganda Christian University (UCU), Mukono, Uganda, and board member STMEA. Mr. Wanambuko is the Senior Legal Officer at Uganda Christian University. He holds an LL.B degree from UCU and a postgraduate diploma in legal practice from the Law Development Centre. A member of the Uganda Law Society.
 Dr. Eve Nakabembe, MBFHI Director – senior consultant, obstetrician-gynecologist and lecturer Makerere University, Department of Obstetric and Gynecologist, she offers deep technical expertise in clinical maternal health and hospital-based interventions.
